Weekly Devotion
June 9, 2025
Updated Weekly

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we begin another week, let us center our devotion on the most fundamental principle of our faith: our salvation through Jesus Christ. As stated in Acts 4:12, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” This verse reminds us that only through Jesus can we receive the gift of salvation and be reconciled with God. It is by His grace and sacrifice on the cross that we are able to be saved. It is crucial for us to remember this truth and continuously strive to live our lives in accordance with it.
We must also never forget to share this good news with others, as 1 Timothy 2:4 says, “God wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” Let us make it our mission to spread the message of salvation through Jesus to those around us. The life application principle for us is to renew our gratitude for our salvation continually and to actively share it with others, as it is the greatest gift we could ever receive. May this devotion serve as a reminder and encouragement for us to live our lives for Christ and to share His love with others. Amen. 🙏🏼❤️
Very Respectfully and In His Service
Rev. Dr. Rodney A. Chapman
Extraordinary Women of the Bible

"INSIGHTFUL AND HOSPITABLE"
THE BOOK OF 1 CORINTHIANS
From the New Testament of the Bible, Chloe may not be a familiar name to many, but her role in the early church was crucial. She is mentioned briefly in the book of 1 Corinthians, yet her character and actions provide valuable lessons for modern-day Christians. Let’s explore Chloe's background, context, strengths, and challenges, as well as how God used her to fulfill His biblical plan. We will also discuss three lessons we can learn from her character and apply to our lives.
Background and Context: The name Chloe is of Greek origin, meaning "green shoot" or "blooming." She is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 1:11, where Paul writes, "For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers." From this verse, we can infer that she was a prominent and respected member of the church in Corinth. Chloe likely came from a wealthy and influential family, as she had people to report back to Paul about the situation in the church. It is also possible that she was a businesswoman, given her name's mention in the context of business dealings and disputes in the Corinthian church.
Strengths and Challenges: Chloe's strengths and challenges can be seen through her role in the church. As a respected and influential member, she was able to address issues and conflicts within the church. This highlights her leadership strength and her courage to speak up and take action. However, being a leader in the church also presented challenges for Chloe. The Corinthian church was plagued with divisions and quarrels, which must have weighed heavily on her. As a woman in a patriarchal society, she likely faced additional hurdles in being heard and taken seriously by the other members of the church.
God's Use of Chloe: Despite the challenges she faced, God used Chloe to fulfill His biblical plan for the Corinthian church. Her report to Paul about the quarrels in the church enabled him to address the issues and restore unity within the congregation. In 1 Corinthians 1:11, Paul goes on to say, "What I mean is that each one of you says, 'I follow Paul,' or 'I follow Apollos,' or 'I follow Cephas,' or 'I follow Christ.'" This suggests that Chloe's report helped Paul identify the root cause of the divisions and confront them.
Lessons Learned:
Lesson 1. Leadership and Courage: Chloe's character demonstrates the importance of strong leadership and the courage to speak up and take action in the face of challenges. As modern-day Christians, we can learn from Chloe to lead with confidence and boldness. Proverbs 31:25 says, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." This verse reminds us that, like Chloe, we can approach challenges with strength and courage, knowing that God is with us.
Lesson 2. Unity and Humility: Chloe's report to Paul helped restore unity in the Corinthian church. This teaches us the importance of maintaining harmony within the body of Christ and humbly addressing issues that may threaten it. In Ephesians 4:3, Paul writes, "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." As modern-day Christians, we should strive for unity in the church and humbly confront any divisions that may arise.
Lesson 3. Faithfulness and Obedience: Although Chloe's name is only mentioned once in the Bible, her faithfulness in reporting the issues in the church to Paul played a crucial role in fulfilling God's plan for the Corinthian church. This reminds us of the value of obedience to God, even in small and seemingly insignificant tasks. In Luke 16:10, Jesus says, "One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much." As modern-day Christians, we must strive to be faithful and obedient in all aspects of our lives, no matter how small they may seem.
Chloe's character may be briefly mentioned in the Bible, but the lessons we can learn from her are significant. Her leadership, courage, and faithfulness were used by God to fulfill His plan in the early church. As modern-day Christians, we can apply these lessons to our lives and strive to emulate Chloe in our faith and obedience to God.

Your Health and Wellness Matters
In the realm of Christ Jesus, the importance of both men’s and women’s health is greatly emphasized. It is believed that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, so we must care for them to the best of our abilities. This includes maintaining both physical and mental well-being. The teachings of Christ promote a balanced and nurturing lifestyle that encourages self-care and highlights the significance of rest and relaxation. Furthermore, both men and women are viewed as equal in the eyes of God, and therefore, their health and well-being are equally valued. In this way, the teachings of Christ advocate for a holistic approach to health, encompassing not only the physical but also the spiritual and emotional aspects. To fully serve and honor God, it is important for both men and women to prioritize their health and wellness in all aspects of their lives.

Men's Health and Wellness
Black men's health has been a long-standing issue that has plagued our community for far too long. Despite the many advancements in modern medicine, black men continue to face disproportionate health disparities and have a shorter life expectancy compared to other racial groups.
As we approach the end of the year, it is a perfect time for black men to take charge of their health by setting and going to an annual physical. In this article, we will explore the importance of annual physicals for black men and how it ties into the Gospel of Jesus Christ, providing three actionable steps for men to take for better health and well-being.
First and foremost, let us understand the significance of annual physicals for black men. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), black men have higher rates of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, which can be prevented or better managed through regular check-ups. Annual physicals allow for early detection and treatment of any existing health issues and provide an opportunity to assess overall health and make necessary lifestyle changes. Moreover, as followers of Christ, we are called to be good stewards of our bodies, which includes taking care of our physical health.
In the Bible, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and we are to honor God with our bodies. As black men, we must recognize that our physical health is connected to our spiritual health and well-being. Neglecting our bodies through poor health habits not only hurts our physical health, but it also affects our mental and spiritual health. By setting and going to an annual physical, we are taking a step towards honoring God with our bodies and being good stewards of the gift of life that He has given us.
Now, let us focus on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how it relates to our physical health. In Mark 2:17, Jesus says, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." This verse highlights the importance of recognizing and acknowledging our physical weaknesses and seeking help. Going for an annual physical is an act of humility, admitting that we are not invincible and need medical assistance to maintain our health. It also reminds us that our ultimate healing and well-being come from Jesus Christ, who came to save us from our sins and give us eternal life.
Let us now discuss three actionable steps for black men to take for better health and well-being:
1. Schedule an annual physical: The first step is to schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider for an annual physical. It is crucial to find a doctor who understands the unique health needs of black men and is culturally competent. Be open and honest with your doctor about your health concerns and follow their recommendations for preventive screenings and lifestyle changes.
2. Make healthy lifestyle choices: As black men, we are at a higher risk for chronic diseases, but many of these can be prevented through a healthy lifestyle. This includes eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, managing stress, and avoiding harmful habits such as smoking and excessive drinking. By making these lifestyle choices, we can improve our overall health and well-being.
3. Seek support and accountability:
It can be challenging to make sustainable lifestyle changes on our own. That is why it is essential to seek support and accountability from our friends, family, and faith community. Surround yourself with people who will encourage and support you in your journey towards better health. As Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."
As black men, let us take charge of our health by setting and going to an annual physical. By doing so, we not only take care of our physical bodies, but we also honor God and prioritize our spiritual well-being. Let us remember that our ultimate healing and well-being come from Jesus Christ, and by following His teachings and seeking His guidance, we can achieve better health and live a fulfilling life. Remember, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, let us honor God with it through taking care of our physical health.

Women's Health and Wellness
One of the most pressing issues facing black women today is their health. Despite advancements in medicine and technology, black women continue to experience disproportionate rates of chronic diseases such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. Disparities in access to quality healthcare and resources for preventative care further exacerbate this situation.
As Christians, we are called to care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of all individuals, including our black sisters. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus teaches that true healing comes from the Lord and that it is our responsibility to help those who are suffering (Luke 9:11).
In light of this, here are three actions that women can take to address this issue.
1. Educate yourself on the unique challenges and factors that contribute to the health disparities faced by black women. This can include understanding the history of systemic racism in the healthcare system and its impact on access and treatment for black women. Proverbs 18:15 reminds us that "an intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge." By taking the time to educate yourself, you can better understand the issue and advocate for change.
2. Advocate for policy changes and equal access to healthcare for black women in your community. This may include supporting initiatives for affordable healthcare, speaking out against discrimination in healthcare, and supporting organizations working towards health equity. Proverbs 31:8-9 urges us to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." As women, it is your duty to use our voices and resources to advocate for the well-being of our black sisters.
3. Take care of your own health and encourage other women to do the same. Proverbs 3:7-8 reminds us to "not be wise in our own eyes" and to "fear the Lord and turn away from evil." This includes taking care of our bodies, which are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). By prioritizing our own health and modeling healthy habits, we can inspire and encourage black women in our lives to do the same. By taking these actions, we can work towards a society where black women are able to live healthy and abundant lives, in accordance with God's will for all of His children.

Family Health and Wellness
Black families face a multitude of health issues, from higher rates of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease to mental health challenges. These health disparities stem from factors such as limited access to quality healthcare, systemic racism, and socioeconomic inequalities.
However, as believers in Christ, we are called to care for our bodies as they are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We are also called to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31), which includes prioritizing the health and well-being of our families.
To address this issue, here are three actions that black families can take:
1. Prioritize preventive care: Proactively seeking medical attention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for black families. This can include regular check-ups, screenings, and making healthy choices like eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly.
2. Address mental health: The stigma surrounding mental health in the black community often prevents individuals and families from seeking help. However, it is essential to prioritize mental health and address concerns with the support of a healthcare professional. This could include therapy, support groups, or seeking spiritual guidance.
3. Advocate for equitable healthcare: As Christians, we are called to be advocates for justice and equality. This includes pushing for equitable healthcare for all, regardless of race or socioeconomic status. We can do this by supporting policies and initiatives that promote access to affordable healthcare for every member of our community.
As black families, it is important to prioritize our physical and mental health, not just for ourselves but also for our loved ones and our communities. By taking these actions and following the teachings of Christ, we can work towards reducing health disparities and promoting overall well-being for black families. Remember, our bodies are gifts from God, and it is our responsibility to care for them as we continue to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This Week's Topic: "Responsibility"
As Christian women, it is essential not only live out your faith but also embody the character of Christ in all aspects of our lives. One crucial aspect of Christian character is accountability. As Kingdom women, you are called to be accountable not only to ourselves but also to God and our fellow believers. Accountability can be defined as taking responsibility for one's actions and being answerable to someone for those actions.
In the Christian context, it means holding yourself to a higher standard—one that aligns with the teachings of the Gospel and the example set by Jesus Christ. In the book of Romans, the apostle Paul writes, "So then each of us will give an account of himself to God" (Romans 14:12). This verse highlights the importance of accountability to God. As believers, we will one day stand before God and give an account of how we lived our lives. This should serve as a sobering reminder that our actions have consequences, not just in this life but in the next as well.
Moreover, accountability to fellow believers is also emphasized in the Bible. In Galatians 6:1-2, Paul instructs us, "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ." This passage shows the importance of holding each other accountable in love and helping each other grow in our faith.
As Kingdom women, it is crucial that we hold ourselves and each other accountable in all areas of our lives, including our actions, thoughts, and words. This means being transparent and vulnerable with one another, confessing our sins, and seeking forgiveness. It also means supporting and encouraging each other in our walk with Christ.
But why is accountability so essential for Christian women specifically? Women face unique challenges and temptations that can hinder their spiritual growth and walk with God. It is in these moments that accountability becomes even more critical. Sisters in Christ can provide guidance, correction, and accountability when women are struggling. When held accountable, you are less likely to fall into temptation and more likely to stay focused on living out your faith.
Accountability also helps you grow in your faith. Proverbs 27:17 states, "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another." Similarly, as you hold each other accountable and encourage one another, you grow in your spiritual maturity and become more Christ-like.
It is also worth noting that accountability does not mean judgment or condemnation. Instead, it is an act of love and grace. As sisters in Christ, you must approach accountability with a gentle and humble spirit, always seeking to restore and help one another grow in our faith. As Kingdom women, you should strive to embrace accountability in all areas of your life. Hold yourselves and each other accountable to the standards of the Gospel and the example set by Jesus Christ. May we be a community of sisters who support and encourage one another as we journey toward becoming the women God has called us to be. Let us also remember that our ultimate accountability is to God and strive to live our lives in a way that honors and glorifies Him.
King's Crown Ministry
Empowering Men to Rein with Honor and Strength
This Week's Topic: "Accountability"
As Christian men, we are called to fulfill our responsibilities not only in our earthly roles but also as Kingdom Men. This means embracing our divine calling to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ in every aspect of our lives. In the book of Ephesians, Paul exhorts husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church and to be willing to lay down their lives for them (Ephesians 5:25). This clearly demonstrates the responsibility we, as Kingdom Men, have toward our families. We are to be the spiritual leaders in our homes, guiding and nurturing our families toward a deeper relationship with God.
As Kingdom Men, we are also called to take responsibility for our actions and choices. Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” While we may make plans for our lives, ultimately God directs our steps. We must be willing to submit our plans to Him and take responsibility for the outcome. This includes acknowledging our mistakes and seeking forgiveness when we fall short. Moreover, as Kingdom Men, we are responsible for fulfilling the Great Commission. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commands us to “Go and make disciples of all nations.” This is not just the responsibility of pastors or missionaries but of every Christian. We are called to share the Gospel with others and lead them toward salvation in Christ. As Kingdom Men, it is our duty to spread the Good News and make disciples for the Kingdom of God.
It is also our responsibility to be good stewards of all that God has entrusted to us, including our time, talents, and resources. In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), Jesus teaches us that we will be held accountable for how we use what has been given to us. As Kingdom Men, we must utilize our gifts and resources to advance the Gospel and bless others. Our ultimate responsibility as Kingdom Men is to reflect the image of Christ in all that we do. Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” We are to be ambassadors of Christ, representing Him in our actions, words, and attitudes. This requires us to strive constantly for spiritual growth and maturity while seeking wisdom and guidance from God.
As Kingdom Men, we have a high calling and great responsibilities to fulfill. We are to love and lead our families, take responsibility for our choices, fulfill the Great Commission, be good stewards, and reflect the image of Christ in all that we do. May we embrace our responsibilities with humility, seeking the strength and guidance of the Holy Spirit as we strive to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ in every aspect of our lives.
